Feds pour $12.5M into housing initiative for Winnipeg

Winnipeg Mayor Brian Bowman has announced the city will receive $12.5 million in funding through the new federal Rapid Housing Initiative (RHI).

The program intends to create up to 3,000 affordable and permanent homes across Canada, and will be implemented through the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation under the National Housing Strategy, a 10-year plan that will spend more than $55 billion to create 125,000 new homes, reduce housing needs for 530,000 families, and retrofit approximately 300,000 housing units.
